Speaking recently on a video posted on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold discussed Joe Rodon’s time at Tottenham Hotspur thus far.

Since moving to Spurs from Swansea City in what was a £10.89 million deal in October, Rodon has featured just once for Jose Mourinho’s side, playing one minute of the club’s 1-0 Premier League win over Burnley.

However, the £6.3 million-rated centre-back has sat on the bench in both of Tottenham’s last two league fixtures, being given the nod ahead of the rather more experienced Davinson Sanchez in Jose Mourinho’s matchday squads.

And, the Wales international was one topic of conversation on a recent video posted by Gold on YouTube, in which the journalist said he wouldn’t be surprised to see the 23-year-old feature more prominently for Spurs in the run of games before Christmas, while also stating how pleased the club are with the defender since his move to north London.

He said: “He actually surprised me, he’s already made his debut against Burnley in those last couple of minutes. I think a big indicator of how he’s doing in training is the fact that he’s now on the bench instead of Davinson Sanchez in recent games.

“As far as I’m aware, they’ve been really pleased with what he’s showing in training. So, I think with the run of games coming up before Christmas – because he obviously can’t play in Europe, either – I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in some capacity.

“I was surprised myself last week; [Eric] Dier and [Toby] Alderweireld played all three games, which, bearing in mind their recent and past hamstring issues, I was very impressed with that. But, I do think Rodon will have to get some game time.

“It’ll be interesting because [with Japhet] Tanganga now back in training, whether he, with the Premier League experience he’s got, gets that nod. But they’re pleased with Rodon, they really are.”

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments regarding Joe Rodon…

From Gold’s comments, it would appear that the journalist is of the belief that Spurs fans could well be seeing more of Rodon on the pitch over the coming months, with games coming thick and fast for Jose Mourinho’s side.

However, as Gold also touches on, with Tanganga now back from injury, as well as Sanchez, Dier and Alderweireld all currently fit, Mourinho will have plenty of options to choose from in the centre-back position, so, in our opinion, Rodon will have his work cut out for him if he is to get the nod in a starting position in the Spurs backline ahead of his teammates.
