Rory Jennings has been discussing the Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin during a recent video on his YouTube channel following England’s defeat to Belgium on Sunday night in the UEFA Nations League.

The 23-year-old started as a substitute for Gareth Southgate’s side but was introduced on 69 minutes to replace Chelsea’s Mason Mount (as per BBC Sport). The Everton forward made his England debut just last month (as per Transfermarkt) after an impressive start to the Premier League season with Carlo Ancelotti’s side in which he has scored eight goals in eight appearances.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

However, when discussing the Sheffield-born forward and in particular, his display in the aforementioned international fixture, Jennings felt the player was misused by the England boss, here is what he had to say:

“We brought Dominic Calvert-Lewin on, a natural goalscorer in the peak of his form, the form of his life, and we play him on the right of a three. He couldn’t be a more obvious, typical, lynchpin of a centre-forward. Get the ball into him, in and around him, he’s a one-touch finisher. He is Pippo Inzaghi, but English.”

TIF Thoughts on Rory Jennings’ comments regarding Dominic Calvert-Lewin…

The England forward’s impressive start to the season has come with him playing in his natural centre-forward position rather than from the wider position he took up when he was introduced to the game on Sunday night.

Understandably, Gareth Southgate may have wanted to keep Harry Kane on the field given he has scored 32 goals for England in just 48 appearances to date, however, given Calvert-Lewin has very little previous experience of playing from the right at the top level, it’s no wonder Jennings has questioned the England boss’ decision.
