Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast, and he has been talking about news regarding a few clubs around Europe, and one of those teams that he spent a little bit of time on was Everton.

It has been claimed that Manchester United want the Toffees’ director of football Marcel Brands, and Castles spent a bit of time talking about Brands and what might happen to him.

The 58-year-old’s contract with Everton expires next summer, and he has been with the club since May 2018 and has helped sign players such as Richarlison and Alex Iwobi for Everton in that time.

However, with the Red Devils interested, could Brands be on his way out of Goodison Park? Castles isn’t so sure.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

He said: (5:35) “A story came out that he was a strong candidate for the role [Manchester United’s director of football].

“[It] might not be a coincidence that Brands has less than a year left on his contract at Everton and from his perspective would be in a position where he is free to leave at the end of the season without compensation.

“It might not be a bad situation for him, even if he wants to stay at Everton, for any interest from Manchester United to become public knowledge, so he can use it in negotiations with Everton to improve his position after what was one of the strongest transfer windows Everton have had under their current ownership.”

TIF Thoughts on Brands and his future…

Since joining the Toffees, Everton, in the Premier League, have finished in eighth place and 12th place, while they currently occupy seventh position at the moment.

They have also spent £266.10m on new players since Brands was appointed, and if you look at how they have done in the league, you could argue that they haven’t made any progress.

However, in the last transfer window, they did sign the likes of James Rodriguez, Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure, so you could argue that they did well.

Are your thoughts on Marcel Brands positive or negative?

Positive, he does a good job

Negative, he just needs to leave

Negative, he just needs to leave

Looking at the money Brands has helped spend with the Toffees, we are not sure why Manchester United would want him, given the lack of progress that Everton have made with his signings.

We are also not sure why the Toffees would want to keep him, looking at the lack of progress.
