Football journalist David Ornstein has been discussing the possibility of Moise Kean returning to Everton in the upcoming January transfer window.

This comes after Ornstein recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he spoke about the biggest talking points surrounding the Premier League at this moment in time.

On the topic of Kean, who is currently on loan at French giants Paris Saint-Germain, and the possibility of him being recalled to Everton in January, Ornstein had this to say on the matter.

He said: “There will be some deals that were struck in the summer that have recall options. I don’t know if that’s the case with Moise Kean, but what I do know is that Everton sent him to PSG for a reason: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is their first-choice striker, he’s done fantastically so far this season.

“Yeah, they’ve sort of stuttered a bit of late, Everton, in their last four games and that’s coincided with him doing really well. I think he’s scored four or five goals for PSG but that’s precisely what Everton wanted. They wanted him to go out and get game time, to get exposure, whether that means to come back to them – because there’s no option to buy as we understand it – or whether they’re going to sell him.

“It depends how things work out at the end of that loan deal but yeah, they want him to stay there, and I saw a lot of Everton fans on social media saying, ‘let’s recall him as soon as possible,’ as I said, I don’t know if that’s possible and also, Everton’s intention is for him to stay, play and to shine.”

Everton signed the 20-year-old from Juventus back in the 2019 summer transfer window for a fee of £24.75 million. In his debut season with the Merseyside club, Kean made a total of 33 appearances across all competitions, in which he only managed to score two goals and provide two assists (per Transfermarkt).

Last month, Kean joined PSG on a season-long loan deal in which he has already managed to score five goals in seven matches for the French champions.

TIF Thoughts on David Ornstein’s comments on a potential return to Everton for Kean in January…

Taking into account what Ornstein had to say on the possibility of Everton recalling Kean to Goodison Park in January, it appears that any Everton fans hoping to see this happen should not hold their breath, as the Toffees want Kean to make the most out of his time in Paris – which is what he seems to be doing judging by his impressive goals record so far.

In our view, this is a good plan of action for both Kean and Everton because it shows that the club want the striker to do well and improve as a player so they can then make a decision on his future when his loan deal ends.

Hopefully, Kean can continue his good form for PSG and then bring that form back to the Premier League.
