Aston Villa podcaster Dan Wiseman has been sharing his thoughts on Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz and his future at the Birmingham club.

This comes after Wiseman recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Villa Filler Podcast from Villa-themed YouTube channel called Heart Of The Holte where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side.

On the topic of Luiz, Wiseman had this to say on the Brazilian.

He said: “Man City do have that buy-back clause [in Luiz’s contract]. Some fans have been saying about €25 million and that’s initially what I remember it being, but when initial reports were released on the transfer, I thought that fee increased each year by about €15 million.

“That’s just what I thought, I’m not sure, but either way, if it’s €15 million or higher, that’s no problem for Man City. If Pep [Guardiola has] got a buy-back clause and Douglas Luiz’s holding down the [number] six [position] for Brazil, I think he’s certainly going to have his head turned by that. Just watch and appreciate Douglas Luiz whilst you can because he’s such a good player.”

Villa signed Luiz, who is currently valued at £24.3 million, back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Manchester City for a fee of £15.12 million.

It was reported in the Birmingham Mail that City’s buy-back clause for Luiz meant that they would have needed to pay a fee of £25 million in the previous summer transfer window to Villa to take the midfielder back to Manchester with the fee rising to £30 million next summer.

TIF Thoughts on Wiseman’s comments on Luiz and his future at Villa…

So far this season, Luiz’s performances in the seven Premier League appearances he’s made for Villa has earned him a respectable season rating of 6.84/10. This shows that the midfielder is an important player for Villa given that he’s started every league game for the club so far in this campaign.

In our view, if City do trigger their buy-back clause on Luiz at any point in the future and take him away from Villa, the Birmingham club would be losing one of their important players and that they should make sure they have someone else in their squad that could replace the Brazilian if needed.
