Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has shared a recent update on the fitness of Villa striker Keinan Davis.

This comes after Evans recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Villa-themed podcast 1874 where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the club.

First up in this quiz on Gabriel Agbonlahor, how old is the former Villa man?

After discussing the recent injury Ross Barkley suffered in the early stages of Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend and the possible players that could fill in for the Englishman, Evans had this to say on Davis.

He said: “Villa have got another slight issue because Keinan Davis is injured as well so they’re really seriously running low on attacking options at the moment.

“I’m not saying Davis would have been a direct replacement to come in for Barkley, but he’s certainly an option from the bench.”

Davis joined Villa’s U18 side back in December 2015 from Biggleswade Town on a free transfer. After making 33 appearances for Villa’s U23s side in which he managed to score seven goals and provide eight assists along the way, Davis made his senior debut for the club back in 2017 under former Villa boss Steve Bruce (per Transfermarkt).

Overall, the striker has made 71 appearances for Dean Smith’s side in which he has scored just five goals and provided six assists for his teammates.

So far this season, Davis has only made one appearance in the Premier League which came in Villa’s first game of the campaign where he played 28 minutes of their 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

However, Davis played in all three of Villa’s Carabao Cup fixtures in which he managed to score one goal and provide one assist.

TIF Thoughts on Gregg Evans’ comments on Davis…

In our view, it’s unfortunate that Davis is currently out of action for Villa when he showed in their previous Carabao Cup games earlier this season that he can be a useful player in front of goal for the team.

However, with Smith not giving Davis a minute of Premier League action since September, this shows that the Villa boss may not trust him to do a good job for the team in the top-flight.

With Davis now out injured and Wesley still unavailable, Villa will now be hoping that Ollie Watkins can remain fit for the time being seeing as he has played 90 minutes in every league game for the club so far this season.
