First up in this quiz on Gabriel Agbonlahor, how old is the former Villa man?

On the topic of Trezeguet and his performance in Villa’s previous Premier League game where they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park, Agbonlahor had this to say on the winger.

He said: “think for me it’s a bit frustrating because Trezeguet’s got the attributes to be a great, great player. I mean, you look at his game, and he’s got the most energy in the team, he works his socks off defensively, he’s always tracking back, he can take players on.

“But then for me, it’s the final third, it’s like he gets in there and it’s the wrong cross when he could pull it back. He crosses it, then he might have an erratic shot and that finish with the left foot, so it was a bit of frustration from me, and being a Villa fan, if he just tidies up [those] parts of his game, he could be an outstanding player and I think most Villa fans would agree – and even Dean Smith would probably agree that maybe that’s something that they’re working on with him.”

Do you think Trezeguet is frustrating in front of goal?

Villa signed Trezeguet, who is currently valued at £7.2 million, from Turkish side Kasimpasa back in the 2019 summer transfer window for £9 million.

In his first season with Dean Smith’s side, the Egyptian made 34 Premier League appearances in which he scored six goals, provided one assist and earned himself an uninspiring season rating of 6.59/10 for his performances (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts on Gabriel Agbonlahor’s comments on Trezeguet…

Last season, Trezeguet managed to rack up a shots-per-game average of 1.5, whereas this season he has made 2.4 shots per game so far in the Premier League, showing that he has become more of a threat in front of goal compared to Villa’s previous campaign.

However, with Trezeguet having only managed to provide one assist and is yet to score a goal for Villa in the league this season, this could suggest that he is not always making the right decisions in goalscoring opportunities as Agbonlahor suggested in the podcast.

In our view, while these statistics have shown some improvement in Trezeguet’s attacking prowess, he still has some work to do on his decision-making skills before he can start scoring goals and providing assists for Villa on a regular basis.
