Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the reports linking Arsenal with a move for Christian Eriksen during a recent episode of his Here We Go podcast.

The Dane, who played over 300 times for the Gunners’ north London rivals Spurs, signed for Inter back in January in a deal reportedly worth £24.3m. However, since the start of the current Serie A season, Eriksen has started in just three of their eight league fixtures and he has been recently quoted as saying the move to the San Siro hadn’t gone as he had dreamed.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

Those comments, plus the lack of game time, we would imagine, will have contributed to the speculation regarding his future. This is what the journalist had to say about the possibility of him moving back to the English capital, to play for the red half of north London.

“Eriksen is going to leave Inter in January, it’s like 90%. He’s not playing, he’s not happy, [Antonio] Conte is not happy with him, the club are not happy with Eriksen.

“We have a lot of rumours about Arsenal about a possible swap deal with [Granit] Xhaka, at the moment there is nothing, just because Arsenal have a different plan for [a] midfielder. We say it about [Dominik] Szoboszlai, and in some weeks we will understand [who] will be the main club working to sign him.

“We can confirm Arsenal are looking at the situation of Szoboszlai but now it is time to pay; now it is time to find agreements because we are close to December.

“Arsenal are concentrating more on this kind of player – Szoboszlai, obviously [Houssem] Aouar, [who] was the main target this summer – so they have different choices in this role and Eriksen is not the first one.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Christian Eriksen’s future…

As reported by the journalist, it seems Arsenal would prefer to sign Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, with the Gunners perhaps looking to add some further creativity to their side. The Gunners have failed to score a goal in the Premier League from open play since their win over Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium back in early October.

Taking that into account, in our view, the link with a player who not only wants a move away from his current club but provided 89 assists during his time in England seems an all too convenient one. Given what Romano has had to say with regards to Arsenal’s plans for a different type of player, we can’t see this deal going through in the upcoming January transfer window.
