Speaking recently on a video posted on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur right-back, Serge Aurier.

Since moving to Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in what was a £22.5 million deal back in 2017, Aurier has gone on to feature 89 times for the club, chipping in with seven goals and providing 15 assists along the way.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

So far this season, the £14.4 million-rated 27-year-old has made three appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side in the Premier League, over which he has scored one goal and provided one assist, as well as averaging a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.86 – ranking him as the club’s second-best performer in the top flight.

And, following another stellar display in the club’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday, Gold spent time raving about the right-back on a recent video of his on YouTube, stating his belief that the defender’s performance against City was excellent.

He said: “I want to start with Serge Aurier – a man who I have criticised in the past and gets a fair bit of criticism, and often that’s for his concentration levels. You know, [Manchester City] was perhaps a game where, in the past, you would have seen him giving away a silly penalty or getting caught up the field.

“The full-backs were probably the most disciplined I’ve ever seen two full-backs for Tottenham, and that’s massive credit to Serge Aurier as well, who does have those tendencies to get forward. But he’d been clearly told by Mourinho, ‘Look, I know you want to, but today, I’d rather you don’t really go across that halfway line very much. I want you to sit back and just create this block, which they can’t really get past,’ and I thought Aurier was excellent.

“He made so many interceptions, tackles, big headers. I think I remember him making maybe one misplaced pass, but that was about it. Other than that, there was one inch-perfect tackle in the area that really had to be spot-on and he made it.”

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments regarding Serge Aurier…

From Gold’s comments, it is clear that the journalist was delighted with Aurier’s performance against Manchester City, and, we have to say, after looking at his statistics from the match, we can understand why.

Over the 90 minutes against City, Aurier made five tackles, made four clearances and played two long balls, all of which culminated in a 7.47 WhoScored match rating – ranking him as the second-best player on the pitch on Saturday.

As such, we have to agree with Gold in saying that Aurier was excellent in Tottenham’s win over City.
