During a recent edition of The Price of Football podcast, Kieran Maguire has been discussing the work undertaken by Sheffield Wednesday’s lawyer Nick De Marco following the recent news that their points deduction has been reduced to just six points.

The Owls were initially docked 12 points having been found guilty of breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules but it was recently announced that, after a successful appeal, Garry Monk’s side has been handed a boost as that has been halved to a six-point deduction as they look to fight their way back up the Championship table.

To kick off our latest EFL quiz, which team handed Championship leaders Reading their first league loss of the 2020/21 campaign at the weekend?

According to Maguire, following this recent development, the Hillsborough faithful, as well as the club’s hierarchy, have plenty to be thankful to De Marco for, here is what he had to say:

“I think, if there’s not one already, Sheffield Wednesday fans should be campaigning for a statue of Nick De Marco, their lawyer.

“First of all, he successfully defended the executives of the club when they were charged by the EFL much earlier this year.

“Then, when the EFL were looking for a 21-point deduction, he got that down to 12 points and delayed for at least one season – and now that 12 points has been reduced to six.”

When asked if Sheffield Wednesday may look to fight the six-point reduction, Maguire said:

“They’ll be looking to see the small print of the verdict in terms of the points reduction to see what the final decision was based on.”

TIF Thoughts on Kieran Maguire’s comments regarding Nick De Marco…

The South Yorkshire-based club has won just one of their last six fixtures in England’s second tier and given they currently sit in the bottom three.

The points deduction, now that it has been reduced, may not be as much of a distraction as they look to secure their place in the Championship for next season first and foremost.

Next up for the Owls in the league is a trip to Preston North End on 21 November following the international break.
