Derby County centre-back Curtis Davies appeared on the latest edition of The Official EFL Podcast and during the show, he spent some time talking about former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook and his links to the Sheffield Wednesday manager’s position before Tony Pulis was appointed as the new Owls boss last week.

Before Pulis’ appointment, ex-Owls boss Danny Wilson advocated for the former Wigan Athletic manager to be considered for the job but the 53-year-old has since confirmed that the Yorkshire club never contacted him about the position and he believes that Pulis was always Sheffield Wednesday’s first choice.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on this past week in the EFL, who was appointed as Sheffield Wednesday's new manager last Friday?

However, judging by what Davies had to say on the matter during this recent edition of The Official EFL Podcast, it’s clear that the Rams centre-back is a fan of Cook and thinks that the Owls should have considered appointing him.

Davies said: “Obviously, you’d hear in the news that he was a strong favourite and the way that he finished the season with Wigan, I thought it would’ve been a good appointment.”

Are you disappointed that Wednesday didn't appoint Paul Cook?

TIF Thoughts on what Curtis Davies had to say about Paul Cook…

During this podcast, Davies did also share praise for Pulis, so perhaps these comments shouldn’t be seen as a slight on the man who did take charge of the Owls.

However, considering that the 35-year-old centre-back does seem to think quite highly of Cook, perhaps he wouldn’t be opposed to the 53-year-old ex-Wigan man succeeding Phillip Cocu at Derby, with the Dutchman getting sacked last weekend and the Rams said to be waiting until Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan‘s impending takeover of the club is completed before appointing their next permanent manager.

Some Derby County fans have called for Cook to be considered for the role at Pride Park, so with Derby defender Davies also sharing admiration for the coach, it certainly seems like Cook could be a popular choice to become the next Rams manager, so it will be interesting to see if the east Midlands club approach Cook or if they opt for an alternative option, as Wednesday did.
