Chris Holt, the football editor at The Star, joined Joe Crann, Alex Miller and host Liam Hoden on a recent edition of The Star Owls podcast following the sacking of Garry Monk earlier this week.

Having previously managed at Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City, Monk was appointed at Hillsborough in September 2019 (via Sky Sports), and after a disappointing 16th-place finish at the end of the 2019/20 campaign it appears he was unable to convince the ownership at the start of this season that the team was heading in the right direction and subsequently lost his job.

To kick off our latest quiz on this past weekend's EFL action, which team earned a 3-0 victory over Championship leaders Reading at the weekend?

When discussing who the panel would consider as a replacement for Monk, Holt mentioned the name of the former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson. Here is what he had to say regarding the 39-year-old:

“I like Lee Johnson, I think he’s a very good manager. He’s been really unlucky. He just was never able to quite take [Bristol City] that extra step up.

“I think I would like to see Lee Johnson, if I’m honest.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Holt’s desire to see Lee Johnson at Sheffield Wednesday…

Johnson managed Bristol City between February 2016 and July 2020, taking charge of 217 matches during that time, averaging 1.41 points per match (as per Transfermarkt). Currently out of work, if he was somebody the south Yorkshire-based club were interested in, a deal that would see him take the reins at Hillsborough could be more straightforward than trying to prise somebody away from a current employer.

However, the likes of Eddie Howe, Nigel Pearson and Tony Pulis are all also currently out of work at present, with the Welshman said to have already been approached by the club with regards to him potentially filling the position, so it may be unlikely at this stage for Johnson to end up as Monk’s successor.
