The Athletic’s Derby County correspondent Ryan Conway discussed all of the latest Rams news during his post-match live stream following the club’s 3-0 Championship loss to Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening and spent some time talking about Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan‘s impending takeover of the East Midlands club.
Earlier this month, the EFL approved the Abu Dhabi royal family member’s Rams takeover bid and it was later claimed that the deal was expected to be completed by the end of November.
During this live stream, Conway issued a positive update on the likelihood of the deal being completed by that time, as he indicated that, to his knowledge, all is going well with the takeover process at present.
The journalist said: “My understanding is that the takeover is still going well and that it is still set for the end of the month – that clock’s ticking, time will tell, we’re five days out from the end of the month, so we’ll find out.
“But I think as these poor results go on, it highlights the necessity for an immediate change.”

As the journalist said, we are now approaching the end of the month and so, is it possible that the lack of any further updates on the expected date of completion for this takeover is a sign that everything is moving along as planned?
It certainly seems like there has been no change in plans and Al Nehayan is still set to acquire the Championship club in the coming days.
If there is still no update and the deal has not reached completion by the beginning of December, then maybe some uncertainty would be warranted amongst Rams fans, especially considering that it’s not unprecedented for reports to claim that a takeover deal is close, only for it to not end up happening, as this is how the recent Saudi-backed takeover bid of Newcastle United played out.
However, if what Conway said is to be believed, then it seems that all is well for this deal at present, and so it looks like Rams fans can still expect this takeover to be completed soon.
