The Athletic’s Derby County reporter Ryan Conway discussed all of the latest Rams news on the latest video that has been posted to his YouTube channel, in which he spent some time talking about potential replacements for Phillip Cocu after the Dutchman was sacked this past weekend.

One of the names that Conway discussed as a potential replacement for Cocu was ex-Spurs and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp, who most recently managed Derby’s Championship rivals Birmingham City back in 2017.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on this past week in the EFL, who was appointed as Sheffield Wednesday's new manager last Friday?

The journalist didn’t rule out the possibility that the 73-year-old could make a return to management with the Rams, saying:

“Harry has a great relationship with Mel [Morris] as well. From everything, a really good motivational guy. Again, I’m not sure, he’s been out of management for a while now so I’m not sure if that’s an avenue he wants to pursue or maybe he’s done with that now, but I suppose with management, you never say never.

“I imagine someone like Harry could be a guy that you’d say, ‘look, let’s bring you in on a short-term basis and then at the end of the season we’re going to reset this thing, fresh season, first full season with new owners at the helm, we’re going to kick reboot on this thing and let’s go.’”

TIF Thoughts on what Conway had to say about Redknapp…

Redknapp claims he played a pivotal role in current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard becoming Derby County boss back in the summer of 2018, as he claims that he convinced Morris to meet with Lampard, despite him having no previous first-team managerial experience

In addition to that, Redknapp has previously worked with Derby County, as he served as an adviser to the East Midlands club for just over back in 2016.

It has been reported that Derby will wait until Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan’s takeover of the Rams is completed before a new manager is appointed, though during this recent YouTube video, Conway also shared that he thinks Morris “will have some say” in the appointment of the Rams’ next manager as well as the new owners.

So, given that Redknapp clearly has a relationship with Morris and the Rams, it may be understandable why Conway doesn’t think it’d be the craziest idea for the 73-year-old to return to the dugout as Cocu’s replacement.

However, Redknapp himself has suggested that he’d like to become the owner of a club, so maybe his days of management are behind him.
