Glasgow Times journalist Colin Watt has recently made a claim about the club’s links with a move to sign Ryan Sessegnon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Watt was a guest on the latest episode of the A Celtic State of Mind podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys.

They discussed potential transfers for the Hoops and one player that they focused on was Sessegnon. Watt believes that the Spurs man is a “fantastic” player and he sounded in favour of a potential deal for the Englishman.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Sky Sports have reported that the Bhoys have already made an approach to sign Sessegnon. Apart from them, a number of other Premier League clubs are also said to be monitoring his situation (as per Sky Sports).

Watt believes that a deal like the Sessegnon one is something that Celtic have done in the past as well and he had high praise for the player.

He said: “As you said, we were linked [with him] a couple of weeks ago. I think it’s a fantastic player that we would be getting if we do manage to complete the deal.

“It is something that Celtic have done over the last few seasons is take players from these bigger teams on loan and develop them. I definitely would be very much for the deal.

“It does sound as though, if that is going to be the way that we’re going, then the Alfie Doughty deal won’t be going through.”

TIF Thoughts…

Sessegnon, who is valued at £22.50m, had joined Spurs from Fulham in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £24.30 million.

He failed to make too much of an impact in the club’s first team last season, as he made only 12 appearances in all competitions and directly contributed to two goals (as per Transfermarkt).

Sessegnon can play as a left-back or as a left midfielder. Greg Taylor happens to be Celtic’s only out-and-out option for the left-back spot and they don’t have a single out-and-out option for the left midfield position (as per Transfermarkt).

So, Sessegnon would add depth to those positions and considering that Celtic want to sign a left-back this summer, signing the Englishman would make sense for the Hoops.
