Pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about Celtic youngster Karamoko Dembele.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and he spoke about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One player that he was asked about was Dembele.

Dykes believes that there hasn’t been so much hype around a young player since Islam Feruz and he really wants the youngster to stay at Parkhead.

Dembele made his Europa League debut for Celtic last season and as a result, he had become the youngest Celtic player ever to play in European competition. Chelsea have previously drawn links with a move for the youngster.

Will Dembele get first-team football this season?

Dykes hopes that Dembele stays at Celtic Park and compared him to Feruz. He said: “I mean, he started off on the bench for Celtic this season, which meant he was one of the first 20 players on the teamsheet at 17 years of age.

“You’ve got to say that’s some achievement. His rise through the ranks at Celtic has been something that has been well-documented.

“There’s never been so much hype about him since Islam Feruz. Never have I thought that we would be speaking about the two of them in the same breath in relation to departing Celtic too soon and I really do hope that Dembele stays a Celtic player.

“Will he get games this season? I think that what’s happened before is that players have been written off by supporters – myself included – but Neil Lennon has managed to work with them and get them back into his plans.”

TIF Thoughts…

Dembele has made one Premiership appearance this season and he played once in the 2019/20 league campaign as well (as per Transfermarkt).

This perhaps might be a sign of the fact that Neil Lennon does trust him to some degree and he might be trying to ease him into the club’s first team.

Lennon has already said that he wants Dembele around the club’s first-team squad this season and he wants the youngster to train with the first team too.

These are good signs for Dembele and Celtic fans can only hope that the youngster doesn’t depart Parkhead like Feruz left the club for Chelsea.
