Speaking on a recent episode of the A Celtic State Of Mind podcast, Colin Watt discussed Celtic’s upcoming Old Firm clash this weekend, and whether or not he believes Diego Laxalt should feature in the fixture.

Following his £13.41 million move from Genoa to AC Milan back in 2018, Laxalt struggled to nail down a spot in the Milan side, making a total of just 35 appearances over his two years spent with I Rossoneri.

As a result of his struggles, the £4.5 million-rated 27-year-old was loaned out to Torino for the first half of last season, where he made 18 appearances.

However, after returning to Milan in January, and making just four league appearances in the second half of the club’s 2019/20 campaign, it appeared that the left-back was not part of Stefano Pioli’s plans this season, which eventually led to Celtic landing the Uruguay international on a one-year loan deal on transfer deadline day.

And, Laxalt could be in line to make his debut for the Hoops this weekend, in the club’s top of the table clash against their Old Firm rivals, Rangers, on Saturday.

However, speaking on a recent episode of the A Celtic State Of Mind podcast, Watt claimed that giving Laxalt his debut against Gers may not be the best idea in the world.

He said: “For me, throwing Laxalt into a game like that could be a baptism of fire for him. I’m not sure it’s a good thing to go [into the game], especially in a season that means so much like this, with an unknown quantity.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Watt’s comments, it is clear that the podcaster is of the belief that Laxalt should not be thrown into the fixture against Rangers this weekend, as he feels the club going into a top of the table clash with an “unknown quantity” in their side, particularly in a season which could see Celtic win their 10th consecutive Premiership title, could prove to be costly for the Hoops.

However, whether or not Neil Lennon is of a similar mind to Watt, we will have to wait until Saturday to see.
