Pundit Tam McManus has recently criticised Celtic defender Shane Duffy for his recent performances.

McManus was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed multiple issues involving Scottish football. They also talked about Celtic and this led to McManus giving his opinion about Duffy. The pundit believes that Duffy’s signing has been a disappointment for the Bhoys.

Duffy had joined Celtic on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window. He is a boyhood Celtic fan but Kris Commons recently aired some criticism for the Irish central defender.

McManus also gave his opinion about Duffy and he believes that the defender has been fragile for Celtic and he hasn’t been up to the pace of the game.

He said: “He’s been a major disappointment. Listen, I think every single Celtic fan was rubbing their hands when he came in the door, I think he was exactly what Celtic were needing. Supporters thought that they were going to get a real aggressive centre-half up here in the Celtic team to go and win headers and be solid at the back and not give anything away – and he’s been the complete opposite, to be honest.

“He’s been fragile. He looks slow, lethargic. He’s not up to the pace of the game. He is diving into tackles and he’s all over the place at the back. Listen, it has been desperately poor from Shane Duffy – particularly when you [consider] the outlay that Celtic are paying.”

TIF Thoughts…

Duffy did start his Celtic career well as he scored a goal each in the first two Premiership games for the Bhoys. While he has been the club’s fourth-best player in the league so far in the campaign, he hasn’t picked up overly impressive ratings in the last three games in all competitions.

In the club’s 3-3 draw against Aberdeen recently, Duffy was the worst-performing player on the pitch for Celtic. So it is understandable why McManus is criticising the 28-year-old for his performances.
