Podcaster Louis McCaffrey has recently made a claim about Celtic’s Head Of Football Operations Nick Hammond.

McCaffrey was hosting the latest episode of The Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed the club’s summer transfer business. This led to McCaffrey hailing Hammond for the work that he has done for the club in the summer window. The podcaster believes that Hammond is the right man for the job.

The Hoops have signed David Turnbull, Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti on permanent deals this summer. Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Mohamed Elyounoussi have arrived on loan deals. Hammond has been Celtic’s Head of Football Operations since October 2019 and he has previously held the Director of Football and Technical Director positions at Reading and West Bromwich Albion.

McCaffrey made his praise clear for Hammond. He said: “He’s clearly [come] in and had a different approach to things. I find it frustrating sometimes that you don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes and there’s not a lot of transparency with fans as to the structures in place and how things work, but you would hope that this window, which clearly has been a massive improvement on previous windows in the last couple of years, it hints to a better structure and organisation behind the scenes, and he’s the head of that.

“We don’t know a lot about these guys and how they work, their CVs and things, but it looks like Nick Hammond is the right man for the job and he’s certainly played a blinder here. So more power to the guy.”

Which of the following clubs has Shane Duffy never played for?

TIF Thoughts…

Apart from having signed a fair amount of players, Celtic managed to keep hold of Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Kristoffer Ajer. Edouard was linked with a move to the Premier League, Ntcham was linked with a move to clubs like Porto and Lyon, while Milan were interested in signing Ajer.

So Celtic improved their team depth by adding new players and managed to keep hold of important players too. And Hammond deserves credit for that and his efforts might just help Celtic in winning their 10th Premiership title in a row this season.
