Former Celtic player Ramon Vega has been discussing rumours he rejected a move to the Glasgow-based club prior to eventually signing for the Hoops.

Vega appeared on theĀ Open Goal YouTube channel alongside Si Ferry for an interview in which he discussed a variety of topics. The former Switzerland international suggested the rumours were untrue and that when the club first made contact with the player, there was no concrete offer in place.

Which of the following clubs has Shane Duffy never played for?

He was asked specifically by the host whether he had “knocked back” Celtic – and here is what he had to say on the matter:

“I don’t think it was serious enough at the time – the offer or the request. [There] were rumours they were enquiring, but there was not an official ‘hey Ramon, want to come to us, Celtic, to play?’ That materialised later on around November/December time.”

TIF Thoughts…

Vega also spent some time in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur but has recently been quoted as saying he would have happily stayed at Celtic for life if given the opportunity, while the 49-year-old rates his time at Parkhead as one of the best periods in his career (as per The Scottish Sun). As well as the two aforementioned clubs, the former defender represented Grasshoppers, Cagliari and Watford among others.

Among other things, he has also spoken about his experiences with the Celtic supporters and how “magnificent” they are. Taking all of the above into consideration, in our view, it’s clear to see just how much Vega treasures the time he spent in Glasgow.
