Pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about Odsonne Edouard and his potential availability for the upcoming Old Firm derby.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and he spoke about multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based side.

He focused on the upcoming Old Firm derby in the Premiership and the pundit sounded pessimistic about the idea of Edouard starting the game.

Edouard tested positive for the current viral infection last week and after that, the Frenchman had gone into self-isolation.

Ryan Christie is also self-isolating and is expected to miss the Old Firm derby. Edouard’s appearance in the game though remains a doubt.

Dykes discussed the possibility of Edouard featuring against Rangers and he believes that since Edouard will return to Scotland a day before the Old Firm, it won’t be “an ideal preparation” for him.

He said: “Now, when I named my team that I was thinking about last week – obviously there were issues with Christie being selected, there were issues with Edouard being selected as well.

“You know, I don’t think Edouard will start due to the fact that he will be in isolation; he will return to the country the night before the game.

“It’s not an ideal preparation for him, although he’s a star man – absolutely.”

TIF Thoughts on Paul Dykes’ claim on Odsonne Edouard’s situation…

After having tested positive for the current viral infection, Edouard had said that he was “fine” and that he will “come back stronger” after this setback.

Edouard has a very good record for Celtic against Rangers, as he has played nine times against them. He has scored as many as six goals and has picked up a couple of assists as well. Out of those nine games, Celtic have won six times (as per Transfermarkt).

This season, he has contributed to seven goals in ten games in all competitions for the Hoops. He scored a hat-trick in the first game of the season against Hamilton Academical.

All of this shows how important Edouard usually is for Celtic and how crucial he has been for the club in Old Firm derbies. So, him not playing against the Gers would seemingly be a big disappointment for the Bhoys.
