Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently criticised Mohamed Elyounoussi for his performance in the Old Firm derby.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based side following their 2-0 loss in the Old Firm derby.

Dykes aired some criticism for the performance of Elyounoussi. He believes that the Norwegian and Olivier Ntcham were nowhere to be seen on Saturday.

Elyounoussi re-joined Celtic on loan in the summer transfer window. This is his second loan spell at Parkhead as he had joined the club on loan from Southampton in the summer of 2019 as well (as per Transfermarkt).

He has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Celtic this season.

Dykes aired his opinion about Elyounoussi and he had some criticism for the former Basel man. He said: “You’re looking at the young boy [Stephen] Welsh at the back, you’re thinking that’s a risk – playing his first start in a Glasgow derby.

“[Those] two guys weren’t my concern today, it is guys like Ntcham and Elyounoussi – boys that you think, ‘Well, you can rely on them.’

“Elyounoussi [is an] international player, who has turned a few games since he came to Celtic and [him and Ntcham] were nowhere to be seen. They hid today. They were passengers today.”

TIF Thoughts…

In the Premiership campaign, Elyounoussi has picked up an overall rating of 6.62 but he picked up a rather underwhelming rating of 6.18 in the game on Saturday (as per WhoScored).

In the Old Firm, six Celtic players picked up worse ratings than him and while he did attempt two shots on goal, he failed to score.

So, it was clearly a weak performance from him and because of that, Dykes’ criticism is justified. Celtic fans will likely want to see him improve his performances soon.
