Celtic pundit Colin Watt has recently made a claim about Hoops striker Odsonne Edouard and the likelihood of the Frenchman being fit to play in next weekend’s Old Firm derby.

Watt was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. They also focused on Edouard, who is currently self-isolating. Watt talked about whether the Frenchman could be fit to play in the upcoming Old Firm derby and gave a pretty positive opinion about it.

Edouard tested positive on France Under-21 duty and will miss games against Liechtenstein and Slovakia. Edouard is now a doubt for the Old Firm derby, which will be played on 17th October.

Watt was upbeat when discussing Edouard’s potential availability for the fixture.

He said: “I’ve seen a lot of conflicting reports out there [on Wednesday], but I was kind of following different people’s views on it, but looking at the guidelines, he has to self-isolate for seven days from the day of his positive test, which was Monday – which means he will be in France for the next seven days and then after that, he should be able to fly home if he tests negative again, which we hope he does.

“Which means he should be back in Scotland, all going well, for the middle of next week, and I don’t think there’ll be any concerns, really, about him playing in the game against Rangers next Saturday.”

TIF Thoughts…

Edouard was very impressive for the Bhoys in the 2019/20 campaign. He scored 27 times in all competitions and picked up 19 assists. In the Premiership, he directly contributed to 33 goals in 27 appearances (as per Transfermarkt).

The Frenchman has a very good record against the Gers. He has played nine games against them and scored six goals while picking up two assists. Out of those nine games, Celtic have won six times (as per Transfermarkt).

Therefore, having Edouard fit for the Old Firm derby will be a big boost for the Bhoys.
