Journalist Alison McConnell has recently made a claim about Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

McConnell was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed multiple issues involving Scottish football. They also talked about Celtic following their 3-3 draw against Aberdeen recently. McConnell believes that Celtic need to trust Lennon and they need to give him time to turn things around at Parkhead.

The Hoops are now six points behind the Gers in the Premiership table. They have now failed to win a single game in their last three outings in all competitions. Before the 3-3 draw at Pittodrie, they had lost to AC Milan in the group stages of the Europa League and had lost in the Old Firm derby too (as per Transfermarkt).

Does Neil Lennon deserve time to turn things around at Celtic?

McConnell believes that it is too early to make judgments about Lennon. She said: “There seems to be immediate calls for him to go and for his head. I think you have to trust him in some ways, you have to give him time to try and correct what is going wrong. It is salvageable, it can be turned around.

“There are six points in it, they have a game in hand. There are all sorts of issues that come into play but I think just now, it is far too early to be making those judgments.”

TIF Thoughts on McConnell’s comments on Lennon…

Celtic had lost the Old Firm derby towards the end of 2019 in the Premiership last season. As a result of that, they had been only two points ahead of the Gers, who had a game in hand (as per BBC Sport).

After that, Celtic didn’t lose a single game in the Premiership and ended up winning the league as well. It might be enough to suggest that Lennon knows how to turn things around at the club. He needs to turn things around right now and he can certainly draw some inspiration from the second half of last season to do that.

Because of what happened last season, it might be a good idea for Celtic to give Lennon some time to get things back on track.
