Pundit Colin Watt has recently made a claim about former Celtic player Lewis Morgan and why he left the club.

Watt was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. The panel also talked about Morgan and how he left Parkhead in January 2020. Watt gave some insight into why the player departed Celtic to join Inter Miami.

Was Lewis Morgan right to leave Celtic?

Morgan had joined Celtic from St. Mirren in January of 2018 for a fee of £306k. He was loaned out to St. Mirren till the end of the 2017-18 campaign. In January of 2019, Sunderland had signed the Scotsman on loan (as per Transfermarkt). Morgan is currently valued at £720k.

Watt believes that Morgan left Parkhead because he wanted more first-team football. He said: “I think, from what I’ve heard, because Lewis was a local boy, he was kind of ready to move on from Celtic. I think he had more aspirations of playing more minutes than what he was getting.

“And to be honest with you, the lifestyle he will be living over in Miami right now probably seems a lot better than the Costa del Gourock.”

TIF Thoughts…

During his time at Parkhead, Morgan made 31 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals while picking up three assists. All of those goal contributions came in the 2019/20 campaign and he assisted one goal in the 2019/20 Premiership season (as per Transfermarkt).

Considering that Morgan wasn’t a regular during his time at Celtic and the fact that he was loaned out twice suggests that the club didn’t really trust him too much. He has done well in his time at Inter Miami so far, having scored four goals in 15 appearances for the club. So the decision to leave Celtic seems to be benefitting him already.
