The Athletic’s Wolverhampton Wanderers correspondent Tim Spiers has recently heaped praise on the Old Gold’s Belgian defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker.

So far this season, the 25-year-old middleman has made four appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in which he has neither scored nor assisted (per WhoScored).

He has, however, earned a 7.09/10 average rating which has made him the fourth-best performer for the Old Gold in the top flight this season.

During the club’s recent 1-0 victory over Leeds United, the Belgian delivered his most impressive Premier League performance of the season so far as he earned a 7.72/10 match rating.

While discussing the win against the Whites in the most recent episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers heaped praise on Dendoncker.

To kick off this quiz on Joao Moutinho, what squad number does the midfielder currently wear for Wolves?

He said: “We championed Dendoncker last week, didn’t we? He’s got to play at the moment, he’s got to be in that team. He offers something that the others don’t.

“He’s good in both boxes and with Leeds [being] a running team, they run more than any other team in the league [as] Sky were saying before the match [on Monday], you need someone like Dendoncker in there to cope with that pressure.

“I thought he did a really good job that probably went a little bit unnoticed [on Monday].”

TIF Thoughts on Tim Spiers’ praise of Leander Dendoncker…

As can be seen in what Spiers had to say, he evidently believes that the 25-year-old Belgian has been in impressive form of late and he is, therefore, undroppable.

The journalist also suggested that Dendoncker’s positive impact may have gone somewhat unnoticed during the victory against Leeds.

Have you been impressed with Leander Dendoncker so far this season?

No, he's not been that good

No, he's not been that good

Last season, the Belgian was Wolves’ tenth-best performer in the top flight after earning a 6.68/10 average rating over 38 Premier League appearances.

So, it certainly seems as though Dendoncker has begun this season in much more impressive form than what he delivered last term.
