The Athletic’s Wolverhampton Wanderers correspondent Tim Spiers has recently aired some criticism of the Old Gold’s attack.

So far this season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has bagged just six goals in six Premier League matches, however, still find themselves ninth in the table (per BBC).

The total of six goals scored is the joint-fourth lowest of any side in the top flight, with only the league’s bottom three clubs having scored fewer.

Only two Wolves attackers have scored a goal this season in the Premier League, too, as Raul Jimenez has bagged four and Pedro Neto has scored once, while defensive midfielder Romain Saiss has also found the back of the net (per WhoScored).

In the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed the Old Gold’s lack of goals and aired that it was an “issue”.

To kick off this quiz on Conor Coady, what shirt number does the Englishman currently wear for the Old Gold?

He said: “You can’t just have Jimenez scoring goals and a bit of Neto and a bit of [Daniel] Podence unless you’re going to be playing for 1-0 every week with an incredibly tight defence.

“I think that’s sort of where Wolves are at right now, really, you know – not great to watch.

“It was a bit better on Sunday [against Newcastle] but no clinical touch and the finishing was terrible; it was either pretty far off target or straight at [Karl] Darlow. So, there are issues to iron out.

“Like I said, if it’s 1-0, it’s a clean sheet, then we’re looking at it as a positive, but the lack of goals is an issue every single week at the moment that needs to be rectified.”

TIF Thoughts on what Tim Spiers had to say about Wolves’ lack of goals…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he clearly believes that it is a concern for the Old Gold that they are not more prolific in front of goal.

Are you concerned by Wolves' lack of goals so far this season?

Yes, it's not good enough

No, it's not a problem

No, it's not a problem

If Wolves continue their current rate of averaging one goal per Premier League game, then they will score fewer goals this term than any season since the 2009/10 Premier League campaign, when they scored just 32 goals (per Transfermarkt).

So, hopefully, for the Old Gold, they can become more prolific in front of goal before too long.
