The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has recently provided an injury update regarding Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Brazilian defender Marcal.

Wolves secured the services of the 31-year-old full-back from Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais during the recent transfer window in a £1.8m deal (per Transfermarkt).

Since his arrival at Molineux, the Brazilian has made just two appearances for the Old Gold in which he neither scored nor assisted.

In late September, it was reported that Marcal had picked up a calf injury and would miss the clash with West Ham (per Express and Star), however, he also missed the following game against Fulham.

So, in the latest episode of The Molineux View podcast, Spiers provided an update regarding Marcal’s injury.

To kick off this quiz on Joao Moutinho, what squad number does the midfielder currently wear for Wolves?

He said: “So, he was training on his own before Fulham. He was out on the grass, but training on his own. I don’t think he’s trained enough with the team yet.

“Another two weeks on, that may change but yeah, we’ll speak to Nuno [Espirito Santo in] Friday’s pre-match press conference.”

TIF Thoughts on Tim Spiers’ injury update on Marcal…

As can be seen in what Spiers had to say, there was seemingly a feeling that the defender had not trained enough with the first team following his calf injury.

However, the journalist does admit that he may have had a chance to get up to speed over the two-week international break and a further update will likely come from Nuno Santo on Friday.

Do you hope Marcal is fit for the game against Leeds United?

No, he's not that good

With the Wolves manager having claimed that he would be without “98% of the squad” during the international break, though, it seems there will have been little chance for Marcal to train with the team.

Over his first two Premier League appearances for the Old Gold, the defender earned a solid 7.03/10 average rating which has made him Wolves’ fifth-best performer.

So, it seems likely that Wolves fans will be hoping the Brazilian is fit and available for the Old Gold’s upcoming trip to Elland Road on Monday night to face Leeds United.
