The Athletic’s West Ham United correspondent Roshane Thomas has recently provided an injury update on English attacker Michail Antonio.

So far this season, the 30-year-old frontman has made six Premier League appearances for David Moyes’ side, in which he has scored three goals for the Irons (per WhoScored).

During their latest match, the 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Antonio was brought off early in the second half having scored West Ham’s goal earlier in the game.

In a report by the Daily Mail, it is claimed that the forward was ‘forced off’ in the clash at the London Stadium due to a ‘niggling hamstring problem’.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas relayed an update on Antonio’s fitness.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “He’s going to have a scan either [on Monday] or some point [on Tuesday] and then we should know by Thursday [at] the latest the extent of the injury, whether it’s serious or whether it’s just he’ll miss a game or two.

“The initial reaction is that he should be fine for Liverpool but again, we’ll know more later in the week.

“When he came off, you sort of saw the difference in our performance, because in my opinion, I thought we were a lot more defensive when Antonio came off.

“We were a little bit slow in terms of our approach on the counter-attack, so you can sort of see the sort of struggles we have going forward. So, hopefully, it won’t be a long-term one.”

TIF Thoughts on Roshane Thomas’ injury update on Michail Antonio…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes the extent of Antonio’s injury will be known later this week but the “initial reaction” is that he should be fine to play against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

The Hammers travel to Anfield on Saturday to face Liverpool in a 5.30 kick-off.

Would you say that Michail Antonio is West Ham's most important player?

With Antonio having been the Irons’ second-best performer in the top flight with a 7.25/10 average rating (as per WhoScored), hopefully, the issue with his hamstring is only a minor one.
