The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas has called for West Ham United to sign Brentford’s English left-back Rico Henry.
On Monday, the window for international transfers closed with the Hammers having sealed the arrival of just two players (per Transfermarkt).
The first was Tomas Soucek who became a permanent signing after being at the club on loan and the second was Vladimir Coufal for £5m; both players arrived from Slavia Prague.
One player that David Moyes’ outfit was linked with during the summer was Henry (via Daily Mail), however, the full-back still remains with his Championship club.
In the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas aired his belief that the Hammers should be trying to sign the 23-year-old defender.
He said: “If West Ham wanted to sign a player from the Championship or Brentford in particular, it should be Rico Henry.
“Rico Henry can challenge [Arthur] Masuaku for that left wing-back position because we’re a bit light in that area of the field. So, I reckon they should go for Rico Henry.
“It’s the one area I reckon we still need to strengthen and obviously Rico Henry would be a good addition.
“He played well against West Ham in the pre-season game, so, hopefully, [the situation] changes because he’ll be really good for us.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he clearly believes that the Championship defender would be “really good” for the Hammers in the Premier League.
Henry currently has three years left on his contract with the Bees and a market value of just £1.8m according to Transfermarkt.
Would you like West Ham to sign Rico Henry from Brentford?
No, he's not good enough
Yes, he's a class player
With business between Premier League and EFL clubs still permitted until 5pm on 16th October in a domestic transfer window (per Sky Sports), there is still time for the signing to be made.
So, it will be interesting to see if Moyes does decide that the left-back would make a good signing over the coming days.
