West Ham United podcaster @ExWHUemployee, also known as ‘Ex’ has said that he would have liked to have seen the east London club make a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney during the recent summer transfer window.

This comes after Ex recently co-hosted the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning David Moyes’ side.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

On the topic of the club’s recent signing of Watford defender Craig Dawson on a season-long loan deal, Ex had this to say on fellow Watford player Deeney.

He said: “I’d have liked to have seen Troy Deeney come to West Ham. He’s 32, if you could get him on loan, if you had him up front – obviously [Michail] Antonio’s first choice – but Troy Deeney roughing up the opposition, holding the line, scored goals last year, he’s a good captain, he’s a popular player, him on loan I think would have been a great signing, personally. He’s always scored goals in the Premier League and his physique is impressive. I’d have liked to have seen him if we’re looking at Watford players.”

The 32-year-old, who is currently valued at £4.5 million, signed to Watford back in 2010 from Walsall for a fee of £653k. Since then, the striker has gone on to make a total of 399 appearances for Watford in which he has managed to score 133 goals and provide 59 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Deeney was Watford’s star player last season after earning himself a season rating of 7.05/10 for his performances in the 27 league appearances he made in their 2019/20 campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

With Deeney having scored 47 goals in the Premier League in his career, he could have provided West Ham with an extra goalscoring threat in their squad, so it’s clear to see why Ex thinks he could have been a good fit for the club.

However, with West Ham managing to score a total of seven goals in their two previous Premier League games, it appears that they aren’t lacking in the goalscoring department at the moment.
