West Ham insider @ExWHUemployee discussed all of the latest Hammers news on the most recent edition of The West Ham Way Podcast, and during the show, he spent some time talking about out-on-loan Irons man Felipe Anderson.

Anderson joined Porto on loan for the 2020/21 campaign earlier this month. He has made just one appearance so far for the Portuguese club, ahead of their 30th October clash with Pacos Ferreira, with the Brazilian coming off the bench during the Liga NOS side’s recent 2-2 draw with Sporting CP, while he has remained benched for the entirety of three other Porto games thus far.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

The Portuguese club’s manager, Sergio Conceicao, recently talked about the 27-year-old and suggested that he needs to work harder in order to secure a regular place in his side and @ExWHUemployee talked about these comments during this recent edition of The West Ham Way Podcast and he shared some concern over the Brazilian’s loan spell from an Irons perspective, saying:

“I don’t know if you saw, but his manager came out in the press the other day and said, ‘he really needs to work harder before I’m going to start playing him’ – now, that’s obviously a follow-on from what Moyes had thought, and no disrespect to the Portuguese league, I would’ve thought that standard of play, in the sense that I would say it’s not as fast-paced and maybe as intense.

“It’s better for technical players like Anderson, I would say, and he’s still not putting in the required effort over there, it’s alarming and also means that his loan – unless he gets into Porto’s team soon – is going to be no real benefit to West Ham because you take the player away from the club so we can’t select him and he’s not improving his value or his worth there because he’s not playing. So, it’s a worry.”

TIF Thoughts on what @ExWHUemployee had to say about Anderson…

It’s clear from what @ExWHUemployee had to say that he is worried about what Conceicao’s comments could mean for Anderson’s game time at Porto, with the podcaster indicating that he thinks the Porto boss may not want to give Anderson as much game time as West Ham might have hoped, which he seems to think could result in the Irons not getting as much out of sending the player away on loan, in terms of increasing his value, as they would if he were a regular for Porto.

Conceicao’s comments on Anderson’s work-ethic certainly aren’t positive, however, the Porto boss also declared that the £22.5m-rated man has shown himself to be “a player of extreme quality” in the past and given that he only left the London Stadium to join Porto earlier this month, it may be fair to say that it is still early days in Anderson’s loan spell and he could still become an important player for Porto, so perhaps it would be an overreaction to become too worried about Anderson’s loan spell just yet.
