During a recent video for their YouTube channel, Football Insider has made a claim regarding Michail Antonio’s future with the Hammers.

The Englishman has started the season in fine form for David Moyes’ side, having scored two goals in the first four Premier League fixtures, whilst also averaging a superb 7.54/10 rating (per WhoScored). The 30-year-old also finished last season as the east London club’s top scorer in the top flight, contributing 10 goals in 24 appearances, which saw him average a very solid 7.29 rating (per WhoScored).

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

Therefore, it is perhaps unsurprising to hear during the video that the Hammers are reportedly keen to tie him down to a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season.

Here’s what the video had to say about West Ham wanting to offer Antonio a new contract:

“We understand that West Ham are planning to tie Michail Antonio down to a new contract in the coming months. The Hammers already have an option to extend the forward’s current deal past next summer by 12 months until 2022, but Antonio has become so integral to David Moyes’ side, the club are keen to go further and keep him even longer than that, with a renewed contract.

“A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club plan to offer 30-year-old Antonio a two-year contract with the option of a one-year extension. That could potentially keep the Englishman at the club until he is three months past his 33rd birthday. Hammers chiefs have decided upon a course of action that could see Antonio spend the rest of his career at the club.

“Discussions have been held at board level over the plan to renew his contract, even though there is no rush to get it done immediately. Antonio is believed to be keen on a long-term contract at West Ham, where his status has been cemented [during] Moyes’ second spell as manager.”

TIF Thoughts…

It seems clear that West Ham are keen to get Antonio tied down to a new deal in the coming months, and Football Insider also claims that he wants to sign, so barring any interest from another club in the £8.55 million-rated man, it seems likely that he will commit to a new contract with the Hammers.

If he can continue his impressive start to the season, then getting him tied down to a new deal could turn out to be very shrewd business indeed.
