During a recent episode of The West Ham Way podcast, @ExWHUemployee has been discussing a variety of topics with regards to the east London club.

One of the subjects raised was whether or not the club are any closer to having new owners and the podcaster revealed that Tripp Smith, one of the club’s investors is hoping to find the financial backing to complete a full takeover of the club.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

Here is what he had to say:

“Tripp Smith, I think he is trying to create buyers for the club as well, but I hate to say it, I don’t think there’s anything close at the moment.”

It was reported earlier in the year that Smith was trying to pull together a consortium that would purchase a controlling stake in the Hammers but the club’s current ownership dismissed those reports.

Can you see a takeover of the club happening anytime soon?

TIF Thoughts…

Although, as can be seen above, there have been rumours with regards to a potential takeover previously, there has been nothing to suggest one is in the pipeline.

Last season, David Moyes’ side finished in a disappointing 16th position in the Premier League, eventually avoiding relegation by just five points. As such, it could be argued that a club the size of the East London-based outfit are underperforming and if performance on the field isn’t where the fans would like it to be, in our view, naturally the ownership will face increased scrutiny.

Whilst nothing seems close with regards to the club changing hands, the supporters can be relatively pleased with the club’s solid start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign whereby they have amassed six points from their opening four fixtures.
