West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has recently made a transfer claim regarding Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing.

During the international transfer window, the Hammers sealed the permanent arrival of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague (per Transfermarkt).

Despite the two arrivals, West Ham’s squad is seemingly understaffed in several positions with just three central defenders, five players capable of playing through the middle of midfield and no natural left-winger.

However, the Hammers have until 5pm on 16th October to recruit from clubs in the EFL in a domestic transfer window.

So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed several Championship players who the Irons are eyeing a move for and one was Billing.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Philip Billing [of] Bournemouth, again, is a central midfielder [who West Ham may be looking at]. He used to play for Huddersfield.

“We were very close to signing him not long ago before he joined Bournemouth. So, he’s someone that potentially we would be looking at.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging from what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, he seems to believe that the Bournemouth midfielder could be being looked at by David Moyes’ side.

The club insider also claimed that the Irons were “very close” to signing the 24-year-old Dane before he signed for the Cherries from Huddersfield for £14.85m in the summer of 2019.

Would you be happy if West Ham signed Philip Billing from Bournemouth?

Billing has made four appearances for Bournemouth in the Championship so far this season and delivered an uninspiring 6.32/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

The same average rating for the Hammers in the Premier League would make the midfielder the joint-fifth-worst performer in the squad.

So, while @ExWHUemployee believes there is a chance that Moyes could be looking at signing the Dane, he would not appear to be worth signing judging from his current form.
