The Athletic’s West Ham United correspondent Roshane Thomas has recently made a claim regarding Bournemouth attacker Joshua King.

During the international transfer window, the Hammers sealed the permanent arrival of just two players – those being Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague (per Transfermarkt).

In the domestic transfer window – which gives the Irons until 5pm on Friday to sign players from the EFL – they have signed Craig Dawson on loan from Watford (per Sky Sports).

It has been reported that another player the Irons have been eyeing a swoop for is King, with the club supposedly having seen a £13m bid rejected.

In the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed the latest regarding transfer rumours and made a claim about the Norwegian forward.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Yeah, it would be fair to say King is the alternative to [Said] Benrahma. King, in my opinion, is a good player, but just reflecting on his season at Bournemouth last term, he wasn’t consistent.

“He scored, what, six goals and he’s 28. As I mentioned, good player, but he doesn’t really fit into the type of player [David] Moyes wants to bring in – young player, potentially has resale value.

“When I say those two things, I think of Benrahma. If you’re going to spend good money on a player, you spend it on Benrahma, not try and be a bit cheap and get someone like Josh King in just ’cause you can’t get Benrahma.

“In my opinion, you should just put all your eggs in one basket and try everything to get Benrahma because he’s that good.”

TIF Thoughts on Roshane Thomas’ West Ham claim on Joshua King…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he evidently believes the Hammers should not go too far out of their way to try and land the signing of the forward.

Thomas clearly believes that Brentford attacker Said Benrahma would make for a much better signing, as he has also been linked with a move to the London Stadium.

Which player would you rather West Ham signed?

Last season, King made 26 Premier League appearances in which he scored six goals and provided four assists for the Cherries and earned a 6.76/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

The same average rating for West Ham would have made him their joint-ninth-best performer last term.

So, it would seem that King would be a fairly solid acquisition for the Hammers if they were unable to land Benrahma from the Bees.
