Contributor @BardiTFC has been discussing the performances of both Lucas Moura and Harry Winks when they were introduced for Tottenham at the weekend during a recent edition of The Extra Inch Podcast.

The Lilywhites were held to a frustrating draw by David Moyes’ West Ham United despite racing into a 3-0 lead inside just 16 minutes. Son Heung-min opened the scoring for the hosts before Harry Kane added a brace to extend their lead on Sunday (as per BBC Sport).

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

However, an action-packed last ten minutes or so saw the Hammers fight back and eventually leave North London with a point. Lucas Moura and Harry Winks were both introduced late on, replacing Son Heung-min and Tanguy Ndombele (via BBC Sport) and the podcaster was adamant that had a huge impact on the side, here is what he had to say:

“I just think it was a little bit of a wake-up call when we look around our squad, perhaps it is not as strong as we think it is because when Ndombele and Son were on that pitch we were a different team and then all of a sudden you bring on Lucas and Winks and the overall level of the game just drops.

“Lucas starts running into dead ends [and] Winks is just not the same player as Ndombele. For us to get through the season we’re going to need a bit more from these guys.”

TIF Thoughts on podcaster’s comments regarding Lucas Moura and Harry Winks…

It’s clear from his comments that @BardiTFC feels Spurs were significantly weaker after Jose Mourinho made the aforementioned changes. Going by the post-match player ratings over at WhoScored, the two players withdrawn were amongst the game’s best performers and so you can understand why the team’s level seemingly dropped.

However, taking the podcaster’s comments into consideration, we can probably assume his concern regarding the standard of some of the club’s squad players is more with a view to the long-term rather than a knee jerk reaction following what proved to be a disappointing afternoon in the end for the Lilywhites.
