Journalist Martin Lipton has been discussing Spurs’ Serge Aurier when he recently joined Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown on the Last Word On Spurs podcast to review the club’s summer transfer window.

The Ivorian was linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with AC Milan said to have been interested in the 27-year-old, however, a move failed to materialise.

Aurier started in Spurs’ impressive victory over Manchester United, a game in which Jose Mourinho’s side ran out 6-1 winners. According to WhoScored, his performance that day earned him an impressive performance rating of 8.92/10, with the former Paris Saint-Germain defender also netting at Old Trafford (as per BBC Sport).

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Lipton however, when discussing the players he thought might have left north London in the summer, said:

“I thought Aurier also was toast – people at the club were telling me in May/June when he was being an idiot that they just wanted him out of the club.”

TIF Thoughts…

Aurier joined the Lilywhites in August 2017 in a deal reportedly worth £22.5m and since his arrival, he has gone on to make 86 appearances for the club (as per Transfermarkt).

Were you surprised not to see Serge Aurier sold this summer?

Judging by the fact Lipton referred to the player as having been an “idiot”, it could perhaps be argued that he is not his biggest fan. However, taking into consideration the aforementioned performance rating following Spurs’ latest Premier League victory, you can understand why it seems the club were against the idea of accepting an offer below their valuation of their £14.4m-rated right-back.
