On the latest video for his YouTube channel Chris Cowlin welcomed Jamie Brown from the Daily Hotspur, to preview Tottenham Hotspur’s game against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

One topic of discussion during the video was the form of Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier. The former PSG man was heavily linked with a move away from the north London club in the recent summer transfer window, with AC Milan amongst those interested but he remains a Tottenham Hotspur player, despite the Lilywhites’ signing of fellow right-back Matt Doherty.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

However, the Ivory Coast international has started the season in fine form and produced a superb display in his first Premier League appearance of the season, scoring and assisting in the 6-1 win against Manchester United, which saw him earn an incredible 8.92 rating (per Whoscored).

Here’s what Brown had to say about the 27-year-old during the video:

“You’ve got so many options now in each position and we’ve seen with the full-backs, I think they’re the perfect example of competition. Serge Aurier was a guy I wanted desperately to get out of the club, but you look at the form he is in now, he’s potentially ahead of Doherty – and Doherty has been playing really well, I thought – so it goes to show what competition can do.”

TIF Thoughts…

Brown certainly seems to have changed his viewpoint on Aurier, having admitted that he wanted to see him leave in the summer but has been very impressed with his start to the season. It was perhaps unfair to write the 27-year-old off during the summer, however, as he averaged a solid 7.06 rating for his performances in the Premier League last season, which saw him rated as Spurs’ third-best player across the 2019/20 campaign (per Whoscored).
