Nick Bright, Jermaine Agyako, Vaishali Bhardwaj and Hunter Godson discussed all of the latest Premier League news on the most recent edition of BBC Radio 5 Live’s The Squad podcast and they spent some time talking about the future of Spurs’ Dele Alli during the show.

Alli is yet to play a full 90 minutes of football in any one game for the Lilywhites in all competitions this season, with the 24-year-old attacking midfielder accumulating just 66 minutes of playing time in the Premier League so far in the 2020/21 campaign.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

He has been linked with a move away from the north London club during the current transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be interested in signing him.

During this recent edition of The Squad football podcast, football writer and Tottenham supporter Godson shared his thoughts on the possibility of Alli leaving Spurs, saying: “I would hate to lose Dele Alli. Genuinely, I think it would be an absolute nightmare.

“I think he’s a player who thrives on confidence and when he’s playing well, he’s untouchable, and I just think he’s off-form at the moment.

“I think [Jose] Mourinho’s treating him harshly, but I think it might be the right way to get him back, because what you’ve seen with [Tanguy] Ndombele is a player who’d sort of been told, ‘Right, you up your game or you’re not going to play,’ and what he’s done is he’s upped his game and Mourinho’s trying it now with Dele Alli.

“I think it would be a real shame if we saw him leave.”

Should Spurs sell Alli?

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Godson had to say, it seems that while he believes Alli is not at his best right now, the north London club should not sell him because of how good the player can be.

While Alli hasn’t enjoyed a lot of game time of late, it may be fair to say that the £57.6m-rated attacking midfielder has been a key player for Spurs in the past.

He was Spurs’ second-highest league goalscorer and joint-second-highest league assist provider in the 2015/16 campaign and the 2016/17 campaign, while he was also Tottenham’s joint-highest assist provider in the 2017/18 season.

So, if Godson is confident that Mourinho can get Alli back to his best, then we believe it is understandable why he feels “it would be a real shame” if the 24-year-old departed the north London club.
