On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, former Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov featured as a guest, to talk through his footballing career and time with the North London club.

One question the former striker answered during the recent podcast was regarding Tanguy Ndombele and his start to the 2020/21 campaign. The French midfielder endured a difficult start to his Tottenham career last season, having joined for a club-record fee from Lyon, with fitness issues causing problems for the 23-year-old throughout the season.

However, he has started this season in a much more promising way, having made seven appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side, contributing two goals (per Transfermarkt).

Here’s what Berbatov had to say about the midfielder during the podcast:

“I was impressed, [putting] aside [Heung-Min] Son and [Harry] Kane, I was impressed by Ndombele and [Moussa] Sissoko and [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg. These three, they were bullying the other players the whole game. [Their] vision of the game, positioning, interceptions, reading of the game – everything was happening, and they were controlling that game.

“And I’m happy to see Ndombele getting more and more playing time because I think he’s a good player. I think he’s a really good player.”

TIF Thoughts…

Berbatov was certainly impressed with Spurs’ midfielders in the recent win against 6-1 Manchester United, and it is unsurprising to hear his praise of Ndombele, as the Frenchman picked up an impressive 8.07 rating for his performance in that game (per WhoScored).

Do you think Ndombele is going to get even better?

No

Hopefully, the 23-year-old can continue his impressive start to the season throughout the 2020/21 season and establish himself as a really key player in Mourinho’s side, as the Portuguese manager seeks to end the Lilywhites’ long wait for a trophy, with their last success coming in the League Cup in 2008, a game which Berbatov incidentally scored in (per BBC).
