Speaking recently on an episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Chris Cowlin stated his belief that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the ‘future captain’ of Tottenham Hotspur.

Since arriving at Spurs from Southampton in what was a £14.94 million deal back in August, Hojbjerg has impressed for Jose Mourinho’s side, with the central midfielder averaging 2.3 tackles and 0.8 interceptions, as well as making an average of 88.8 passes, over his six Premier League appearances thus far, culminating in an average WhoScored match rating of 6.95 – ranking him as the club’s fourth-best performer in the league.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

The £22.5 million-rated 25-year-old impressed once again in the club’s 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday night, making three tackles and one interception, which contributed to Tottenham keeping their first clean sheet of the 2020/21 Premier League season, earning a WhoScored match rating of 6.85 in the process.

Hojbjerg was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, in which Cowlin raved about the Denmark international, with the podcaster admitting while he rated the midfielder during his time at Southampton, he didn’t quite realise the level of talent Hojbjerg actually possessed.

He said: “I think that he’s a future captain at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, I think he’s absolutely fantastic. We’ve seen him get some great Premier League experience with Southampton. He will be, definitely, an unsung hero at the end of this season.

“We’ve seen what he’s capable of already, a real leader on the pitch, always looking to help a teammate out, always looking to get involved, always looking to move the ball on. He’s not the most creative player on the pitch, but the job that he does – cleaning everything up, moving the ball, helping his teammates out, [being] very protective of his teammates.

“I really, really like him. I thought he was a good player [at Southampton], but I didn’t realise how good he is.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Cowlin’s comments regarding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg…

From Cowlin’s comments, it is clear how much the podcaster rates Hojbjerg, and how much of an effect he believes the midfielder has had on the Tottenham team since his arrival earlier this year – so much so, in fact, that Cowlin feels Hojbjerg could go on to become the captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the future.

And, we have to agree, considering the 25-year-old has played every minute of the club’s six Premier League fixtures so far this season, and has been Mourinho’s fourth-best player in the league, it could well be argued that Tottenham’s position of fifth place in the table is down, at least in part, to the midfielder’s impressive performances for the club.
