Spurs podcaster Bardi (@BardiTFC) has been speaking on the latest edition of The Extra Inch podcast about all things relating to Tottenham Hotspur.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

One of the topics that Bardi spent a little bit of time on was Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld who played the full 90 minutes of Belgium’s 2-1 defeat to England.

It seems as if Bardi is worried that because Alderweireld has started hunching over he could be finished.

He said: “I have got major little alarm bells ringing all over the place regarding Alderweireld.

“He’s starting to now hunch over as he plays football, and I always get a funny feeling when a centre-back starts hunching over that their time is done.

“Ledley King did it, Jan Vertonghen started doing it, and now he’s started hunching.

“I am concerned that this could be the end of the road for Toby this season.”

Do you agree?

Yes, he isn't as good as he was

No, he is still a class act

TIF Thoughts…

Alderweireld did not perform that badly against the Three Lions, earning an average rating of 6.85 but in the Premier League for Spurs, the former Southampton man has only made one appearance this season, and in that game, he turned in a pretty poor display, earning a match rating of 6.61/10.

The 31-year-old only signed a new contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2023 last December, but it seems as if Bardi is now worried that Alderweireld could be on the decline.

The Belgian was signed by Tottenham from Atletico Madrid for £14.4m in the summer of 2015, and even as recently as 2019, he was considered one of the best centre-backs in the world.

So far this season for his country, Alderweireld has been in good form, but for his club, he has been average at best.

So, Bardi could be right that he is on the decline, or it could be nothing to worry about.

We will have to see how he does for the rest of the season before making any further judgement on him.
