Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold talked about Tottenham Hotspur’s recent transfer business on the latest video that has been posted to his YouTube channel and he spent some time explaining why Spurs didn’t end up signing Internazionale centre-back Milan Skriniar during the video.

Skriniar was said to have been one of Spurs’ targets for the centre-back position during the recent transfer window, however, they didn’t end up getting that deal over the line prior to Monday’s transfer deadline.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Gold shed some light on Spurs’ pursuit of Skriniar and why the transfer ultimately didn’t happen during this recent YouTube video, saying: “Towards the end [of the transfer window] they wanted to get that centre-back. It’s no secret that technical performance director Steve Hitchen went out to Italy, tried to do a deal with Inter Milan for Milan Skriniar – it just didn’t work.

“They went back in late on, made an enquiry, but the deal was dead, it just wasn’t going to happen. [There was] too much of a difference – Inter wanted £45 million, Spurs more around the £32 million [mark], plus add-ons, and it just didn’t happen.

“It was possibly one, hopefully, they’ll look at again in January, because the player was very keen on coming, but just wasn’t going to happen at that late stage.

“Inter weren’t willing to let him go and also, he was playing. He was starting matches, even the day before deadline day, he started against Lazio, so yeah, that just didn’t happen.”

Do you think Spurs will continue their pursuit of Skriniar in a future transfer window?

TIF Thoughts…

So, with Gold explaining that Spurs were trying to get this deal done right up until the end of the transfer window and with the journalist sharing that the Slovak defender was keen on joining Tottenham, it seems as though the two clubs’ failure to come to an agreement with regards to Skriniar’s transfer fee is the main reason why this deal didn’t happen.

It will be interesting to see if Skriniar remains one of Spurs’ transfer targets moving forward and if they go back in for him in a future transfer window, as Gold seems to think they might.

With the 25-year-old under contract with Inter until the end of June 2023, the Serie A side may not be under pressure to sell the defender any time soon and if that is the case, then maybe Spurs will have to raise their valuation and meet Inter’s asking price in order to secure Skriniar’s signature.
