Speaking on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Jamie Brown discussed Jose Mourinho’s apparent love for Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier.
Since moving to Spurs from Sporting CP in what was a £4.5 million deal back in 2014, Dier has gone on to feature 247 times for the club, chipping in with 11 goals and 11 assists along the way.
While the £19.8 million-rated 26-year-old had been often deployed in defensive midfield for the club – making the majority of his appearances for Spurs in this position – but following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Tottenham boss last November, Dier has found himself predominantly fielded in the centre of defence, particularly during the club’s 2020/21 campaign.
And, the England international was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, in which Brown commented on Mourinho’s apparent love for Dier, as well as stating his belief that the 26-year-old will be a prominent figure in the Tottenham side this season.
Speaking after Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday night, he said: “Dier has just come back from injury as well, so to settle back in that quickly was very impressive. Jose Mourinho clearly really likes him, I remember seeing an [Instagram] post on Jose Mourinho’s account just after the Chelsea game and he absolutely loves Eric Dier.
“I think we’ll see a lot more of Eric Dier this season, and it was a good return for him tonight, it was an impressive performance. It was always going to be very difficult against those two, the Burnley attack, but [Dier and Toby Alderweireld] handled them very well.”

From Brown’s comments, it is clear that the podcaster is of the belief that Mourinho is very fond of Dier, and that we should expect to see the 26-year-old feature regularly for Tottenham this season because of that fact.
And, considering Dier has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of Spurs’ six Premier League fixtures so far this season, it would appear that Brown could well be correct in his suggestion that Mourinho is keen on giving Dier regular minutes this term.
