Speaking on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Jamie Brown discussed exactly how much Daniel Levy wanted to appoint Jose Mourinho as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

After spending roughly five and a half years as Tottenham manager, over which he guided the club to a number of top-four finishes in the Premier League, as well as reaching the final of the Champions League, in November of last year, Daniel Levy made the decision to relieve Mauricio Pochettino of his duties as the Spurs boss.

Almost instantaneously, Levy then confirmed that former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, would be taking over from the Argentine, with Levy stating that Mourinho is ‘one of the most successful managers in football’, as well his belief that the Portuguese manager would ‘bring energy and belief to the dressing room’ at Spurs.

And, Levy’s desire to appoint the 57-year-old was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, in which Brown discussed the evidence that proves how much the Tottenham chairman wanted Mourinho.

He said: “It just shows you that Daniel Levy really, really wanted Jose Mourinho as his manager – the way that he went and backed him over the summer was fantastic, and we’ve never really seen that from Daniel Levy. Clearly, he trusts in Jose Mourinho.

“You have to give Jose Mourinho the right tools for him to be able to deliver, he obviously [wanted a certain type] of player – leaders [who instil] the right mentality in the dressing room, and [Levy] went and gave that to him.

“We obviously had a lot of quality in that team, we just needed to add bits around it, and we added the right types of players, we added the gaps that we were missing, and now we’ve got a team that’s looking really good.”

TIF Thoughts on Jamie Brown’s comments regarding Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho…

From Brown’s comments, it is clear that the podcaster is of the belief that the financial backing Levy provided Mourinho with over the summer transfer window is proof that the chairman really wanted the Portuguese manager as the boss of Spurs.

And, considering the club purchased the likes of Sergio Reguilon for £27 million, Matt Doherty for £15.12 million, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for £14.94 million and Joe Rodon for £10.89 million, in addition to the loan signings of Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale, it would indeed appear as if Levy has placed his faith in Mourinho, as Brown suggests.
