Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relayed a report that claimed Spurs defender, Toby Alderweireld, wants to ‘play closer to home’ in the future.

According to the report by Gazet van Antwerpen (via Sport Witness), Alderweireld’s father has stated that the defender has already ‘bought land in Ekeren’ with the plan to ‘play closer to home’ in the future.

So, what did these Tottenham Hotspur fans have to say in reaction to the news regarding Toby Alderweireld?

Since joining Spurs from Atletico Madrid in what was a £14.4 million deal back in 2015, Alderweireld has gone on to feature 207 times for the north London side, chipping in with eight goals and providing five assists along the way.

However, despite the £18 million-rated 31-year-old signing a new contract with the club until the summer of 2023 last December, it would appear, according to the centre-back’s father, that the Belgium international is already planning his future beyond Tottenham, which has caused many more Spurs fans to flock to Twitter to have their say on the matter.

All in all, it would seem that many of these Spurs fans are fine with the idea of Alderweireld leaving the club upon the expiry of his current contract, however, others appear rather less so.
