Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano discussed all of the latest football transfer news on the most recent edition of his Here We Go podcast and during the show, he spent some time talking about Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a centre forward.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho recently confirmed that his side is “trying everything” to get a deal for a striker over the line, as the club has got a lack of depth at the centre forward position at present.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

After stating that “talks are on between the agent of [Arkadiusz] Milik and Tottenham” during this recent edition of his Here We Go podcast.

Romano went on to share that the club had the chance to re-sign ex-Spurs striker Llorente for this position during the current transfer window, with the 35-year-old having departed from the club in 2019 and he also shared that Bayer Leverkusen’s Lucas Alario was “an option” for them but they were rebuffed by his current club.

He said: “Llorente has been offering to come back to Tottenham but Tottenham said no. Also, Alario was an option for Tottenham, as Christian Falk said, but Bayer Leverkusen said no.

“So, this backup option for Harry Kane is becoming a bit complicated but Tottenham have many options, they will sign a striker.”

Interestingly, it has since been claimed that Spurs are set to sign Carlos Vinicius.

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it seems that re-signing Llorente was an option for Spurs, however, the club ultimately decided not to link back up with the Spaniard, while Alario was seemingly a target for the club but his current side prevented that deal from happening.

If Spurs turned down the chance to re-sign Llorente, who scored 13 goals in 66 appearances during his time in north London, then it would seem that they are confident they will be able to sign a different striker, as Romano also seems to be.

So, it will be interesting to see who the club end up bringing in if they can get a deal for a striker over the line before the Premier League’s international transfer deadline on 5th October.
