Speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed the contract situation of Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min.

Since arriving at Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in what was a £27 million deal back in 2015, Son has been a huge success in north London, scoring 95 goals and providing 51 assists over his 238 appearances for the club, prior to their Europa League fixture against Royal Antwerp on Thursday.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

So far this season, the £67.5 million-rated 28-year-old has highly impressed, scoring eight goals and providing two assists over his six Premier League appearances, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 8.23/10 – ranking him as the club’s second-best performer in the league, behind only Harry Kane.

The South Korea international’s fine form has led to recent talk that the club are planning to offer the forward a new deal, with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho openly stating that he would ‘love’ Son to sign a new contract at the club.

The contract situation of Son was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, in which Romano shed some light on the player’s current circumstances.

He said: “Many Tottenham fans [have been] asking me [for] weeks about the situation of Son [about] his contract with Tottenham. He has three years left with Tottenham, so the situation [is clear].

“What’s new is that Son has new agents, he [has] switched to Base Soccer, [which is] a top agency in Europe right now, one of the best in the world. They have a great relationship with Tottenham. So, this is good news for Tottenham, in my opinion, because they are going to start to talk about the situation of Son.

“We will see what will happen during the talks [about] his contract, but the relationship between Base Soccer – the new agency of Son – and [the] Tottenham board is so good. Now it’s time to find [an] agreement, obviously, so let’s see what will happen, but this news is important to understand what will go on with the situation of Son.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding the contract situation of Son Heung-min…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Son appointing Base Soccer as his new agency firm is indeed good news for Tottenham, as according to Romano, the Spurs board has a very good relationship with this particular agency.

As such, while there has been no announcement that Son has agreed a new deal with Tottenham as yet, it would appear – if Romano is to be believed – that the appointment of his new agency firm is a factor that should make the player signing a new contract just that little bit easier.
