Speaking on a recent episode of the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s attempts to sell Paulo Gazzaniga in the summer transfer window, with Everton reported to have been interested in the goalkeeper.

Since arriving at Spurs from Southampton back in 2017, Gazzaniga has gone on to feature 37 times for the club, conceding 43 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

The majority of the £2.52 million-rated 28-year-old’s appearances came during last season, when, in the absence of the injured Hugo Lloris, the former Argentinian international featured in 18 Premier League fixtures, conceding 26 goals and keeping two clean sheets, in addition to four appearances in the Champions League, in which he conceded five goals and kept two clean sheets, as well as three appearances in the domestic cup competitions, letting in two goals and keeping one clean sheet.

Following the club’s signing of Joe Hart in the summer transfer window, however, the ‘keeper has yet to feature in a matchday squad for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, and, with Everton reported to have been interested in the possibility of signing the 28-year-old, it seemed as if there was a chance that Gazzaniga could have been on his way out of Tottenham.

However, on a recent episode of the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, in response to a question asking how close Everton were to signing Gazzaniga, Ornstein discussed one of the reasons why a move to the Toffees did not materialise.

He said: “I’m not sure how close they got – I do know that Everton were looking into Gazzaniga, but that what Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, wanted for him was too expensive for what Everton were looking to pay.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it would seem as if the journalist is of the belief that the reason Everton did not make a firm offer for Gazzaniga was down to Levy’s asking price for the 28-year-old.

However, while the ‘keeper remains at the club for now, recent reports have suggested that Spurs will be looking to sell the Argentine in the new year.

As such, after being left out of the club’s Europa League squad for this season, there is the very real possibility that Spurs fans could have already seen Gazzaniga make his last appearance for the club.
